Will Recruiters be the next casualties of AI Storm?

Artificial intelligence is reshaping industries across the board, and the recruitment sector is no exception. In the realm of tech hiring, AI, in conjunction with ChatGPT and machine learning, is set to disrupt the role of recruiters.

This edition of TTT (The Talent Times) delves into the disruptive effects of AI on the recruitment sector.

Will recruiters become obsolete? Will AI usher in a new era of efficiency? Let's dive in.

How AI Will Transform the Recruitment Sector:

AI, bolstered by machine learning, holds tremendous potential to transform the recruitment sector.

Sourcing

AI in Sourcing

The sophisticated and trained AI algorithms will take over critical tasks like sourcing and matching prospective candidates to their respective job criteria.

With access to vast amounts of data across the web, AI will excel at sourcing candidates using publicly available candidate data. Complex and sophisticated AI algorithms will read through billions of profile data points across the internet to create a large and refined candidate prospect pipeline.

Sourcing will become more refined and accurate as AI algorithms comb through various online platforms, professional networks, and databases, transcending the limitations of job boards and scattered databases. The AI-powered algorithms will have the power to analyze countless profiles, ensuring highly accurate matching based on predefined criteria.

AI Vs Job boards/ Databases

While job boards and databases like Indeed, Naukri, Monster, etc., have an advantage in terms of providing access to active candidates along with data on salary, notice periods, and other details, AI-based sourcing is catching up. This gives them a slight edge over AI-based sourcing methods. However, as AI models continue to evolve, they can be trained on secondary data and user behaviors, gradually closing the gap and enabling accurate predictions of these parameters over time.

AI Sourcing will make Linkedin Recruiting products obsolete

Sherlock Holmes for Recruiting on Linkedin

LinkedIn, being the largest candidate database, is widely used by millions of recruiters for accurate and passive hiring. However, the process of hiring on LinkedIn can be slow, manual, and tedious. Additionally, sourcing candidates on LinkedIn can be challenging due to the platform's search algorithms, which are often considered among the industry's weakest.

Recruiting on LinkedIn requires not only an expensive LinkedIn Recruiter license but also a highly-skilled, experienced, and talented recruiter. Assembling such a combination of resources becomes a matter of both financial investment and good fortune.

AI-based sourcing poses a significant threat to job boards and LinkedIn's recruiter tools. AI-powered sourcing is faster, more efficient, and highly accurate. It offers cost-effectiveness without relying on the availability and expertise of skilled recruiters.

Communication and Connect

AI creating hyperpersonalized emails

One remarkable aspect of AI is its generative AI capabilities. Through ChatGPT and similar technologies, tailored outreach communications can be created for each sourced profile.

Personalized messages can be crafted to engage potential candidates, providing them with relevant information about the job opportunity and company culture. This level of personalization enhances the chances of attracting top talent—all this without a single effort from the recruiter.

Imagine AI sourcing creates an accurate prospect list within seconds, and then a generative AI based solution enables you to reach out to all these prospective candidates in a hyper-personalized manner at scale. All this without any manual intervention or skill set on the part of any recruiter.

Hence, AI can build an entire candidate pipeline without a Recruiter. .

Recruitment Coordination and Candidate Experience

AI based solutions whether through Chatbots or other integrated solutions holds the power to automate entire recruitment coordination tasks - beginning with Interview Scheduling, resolving candidate queries, other stakeholder management, creating reports, updating status on ATS or any other recruitment related tasks.

Recruiters who majorly perform tasks related to recruitment coordination are at major risk of being redundant as AI will be able to replace majority of their tasks

The Indispensable Role of Recruiters:

The Human Touch by Recruiters

While AI and machine learning have the capability to automate various aspects of the recruitment process, such as sourcing, matching, and recruitment coordination, it is important to recognize the irreplaceable value of human recruiters. Recruiters fulfill a multifaceted role that extends well beyond the routine tasks that can be efficiently automated through AI technology.

One of the key roles recruiters play is being the face of the company. They are entrusted with the responsibility of leaving a lasting impression on prospective candidates and enticing them to join the organization. This is where the human touch becomes indispensable. Recruiters possess unique qualities that set them apart from AI systems. They have the ability to establish genuine connections with candidates, building rapport and trust along the way. These personal interactions cannot be replicated by AI, as they require empathy, intuition, and emotional intelligence.

Furthermore, recruiters serve as ambassadors of the organization's values, culture, and mission. They are skilled at effectively conveying the intangible aspects that make a company unique and appealing. By highlighting these elements, recruiters can attract candidates who align with the organization's vision and values, fostering a strong cultural fit from the start. This intricate understanding of the company's nuances is crucial in explaining hidden aspects of job descriptions to candidates, ensuring a clear understanding of the role and its expectations.

Beyond the functional aspects of recruitment, recruiters also play a vital role in enhancing the candidate experience. Through personalized interactions and attentive communication, they create a positive and engaging environment for candidates. Recruiters can address their concerns, answer questions, and provide valuable insights into the organization, leaving candidates with a favorable impression and a sense of being valued throughout the process.

Moreover, recruiters possess the expertise to assess the intangible qualities that cannot be captured solely through AI algorithms. They can evaluate a candidate's soft skills, cultural fit, and potential for growth within the organization. This human judgment, honed through experience and intuition, is invaluable in making informed hiring decisions and ensuring the best talent is brought on board.

While AI and machine learning can undoubtedly automate various aspects of the recruitment process, the role of human recruiters remains irreplaceable. Their ability to connect with candidates, convey the organization's values, explain hidden job aspects, ensure cultural fit, and enhance the overall candidate experience is essential in attracting and securing top talent. The human touch, empathy, and expertise that recruiters bring to the table cannot be replicated by AI, making them a vital asset in the recruitment ecosystem.

So who all are at Risk

Who all are at Risk in the AI storm?

In my perspective, AI in recruitment poses threat to the following-

  1. Job board/Candidate database companies and Linkedin Recruiter products are at serious risk of losing significant business
  2. Recruitment coordinators are at serious risk of losing their jobs as AI will replace majority of their tasks
  3. Recruitment Agencies help in creating talent pipelines using their inhouse recruiters and third party/own databases. AI poses a serious threat to the business of recruitment agencies, hence recruiters working in recruitment agencies are at risk of getting replaced by AI.

Conclusion - Adapt AI to increase your capabilities

AI collaborating with Human

AI and machine learning will undoubtedly replace the grunt work of recruiters, making them more productive and efficient. Recruiters who embrace AI and leverage its power in hiring processes will be at the forefront, replacing those who cling to rudimentary methods.

By harnessing the power of AI, recruiters can delegate time-consuming activities to intelligent systems. These technologies have the potential to streamline the hiring process by swiftly sifting through countless profiles, analyzing candidate profiles, and identifying the most suitable candidates based on predetermined criteria. This allows recruiters to devote their valuable time and energy to more strategic and impactful tasks.

Recruiters who embrace AI and become adept at leveraging its capabilities and will undoubtedly be at the forefront of the evolving recruitment landscape. They will possess a distinct competitive advantage over those who resist or overlook the potential of these technological advancements. By adapting to AI-powered recruitment tools and platforms, recruiters can position themselves as innovative and forward-thinking professionals, capable of effectively navigating the changing landscape of talent acquisition.
